A Foundation Horse
A Saqlawiyah Jidraniyah of the marbat of al-Dirri of the Qumusah section of the Saba'ah foaled in the possession of 'Abd al-Qadir of Deyr, purchased by Mr. J.H. Skene, H.M.'s Consul at Aleppo, for Wilfrid and Lady Anne Blunt and imported in 1879 to England by the Blunts.
NOTES: The above information is from Basilisk's entry in Weatherby's General Stud Book Vol. XVI p651. It is consistent (except that the birthdate is shown as 1876) with material in Archer, et al. [1978, p95] and Upton [1980, p60], both said to be based on access to records of the Blunts. According to Archer, the Blunts initially entered Basilisk in their herd book and in Weatherby's (in Vols. XIV and XV) as a Saqlawiyah Ubayriyah of Ibn al-Dirri. After a meeting with Ibn al-Dirri, her entry was changed to read as shown above. According to Upton, Basilisk was said to be by a bay Saqlawi Jidran of Ibn al-Dirri and was bred by 'Abd al-Qadir. Raswan Index entry #1254 shows both the Ubayri and Jidran substrains, evidently referencing the contradictory Blunt notes. [See Pharaoh (BLT) and the Meshura hujjah, Al Khamsa Arabians III, pp206-7]
