A Foundation Horse
A Dahmah Shahwaniyah from the stud of Ali Pasha Sharif, producing in the stud of Khedive Abbas II, Egypt.
NOTES: The above information is from the RAS History, p33. An early handwritten herd book of Prince Mohamed Aly states that El Dahma was a gift from Ali Pasha Sharif to the Khedive. The Khedive at the time would have been Abbas II's father, Khedive Tewfik.
Entry #2365 and correction #544 for El Dahma in the Raswan Index show the same information as the RAS History but give no birthdate. Entry #1819 for Dahma (III) and entries #1830 and #3299 for Hajlah say that El Dahma was out of Hajlah (AP) and was bred by Ali Pasha Sharif. If Hajlah dates prior to 1854 as her history indicates, it is unlikely that she was still in production as late as 1880. In addition, Hajlah was said to be of the al-Najib family of the Dahman whereas El Dahma is shown as a Dahmah Shahwaniyah. However, this may not be significant. [See Saklawi II (KDV), for resolution of other confusion concerning this mare. Also see Hajlah (AP) and Gazza (KDV)] El Dahma (APS) has also been called Dahma 1880.
