A Foundation Horse

A Saqlawi Jidran of the marbat of al-Dirri, bred by Shaykh Mashlab Ibn al-Dirri of the Qumusah section of the Saba'ah tribe, imported in 1888 to England by Wilfrid and Lady Anne Blunt.

Out of a chestnut Saqlawiyah Jidraniyah of Ibn al-Dirri who was by a Hadban out of Pharaoh's dam. [See Pharaoh (BLT)]

NOTES: The above information is from Azrek's entry in Weatherby's General Stud Book Vol. XVI, p657, and is consistent with material from Archer [1978, p95] and in Upton [1980, p32], both sources said to be based on access to records of the Blunts. Archer and Upton show al-Dirri as a member of the Rasallin section of the Saba'ah tribe, kindred of the Qumusah section of the Saba'ah. The Meshura hujjah, however, plainly describes al-Dirri as a member of the Qumusah, not the Rasallin. [See note re. Meshura hujjah, pp126-75, Al Khamsa Arabians III.] In addition, the Blunts, according to Archer, imported Azrek in 1887 to Egypt prior to his importation into England. Azrek is also shown as exported in 1891 from England to the Cape of Good Hope by Hon. Cecil Rhodes.
