Hi, I'm Carrie Slayton.
I have been a life long horse lover and a horse owner from the age of 7 or 8. In the early 1980's, I became interested in endurance riding. That interest led to my ownership of the Davenport stallion, Cerulean CF. Eventually, along with an interest in breeding Davenport Arabians, I began efforts to breed Combined Source Al Khamsa Arabians of the endangered tail-female line to *Samirah. Successes, failures and just plain life, resulted in the suspension of both breeding programs.
After a 12 year hiatus, I returned to the breeding of Al Khamsa Arabians to find a very different world than I had left. I was shocked to discover an ever increasing shrinkage in the number of horses being bred, particularly of the rarer bloodlines. I have re-dedicated my horse related efforts to trying to retain as many of the remaining Al Khamsa bloodlines as possible. That dedication resulted in my beung asked to Co- Chair the Al Khamsa Preservation Task Force.
I currently have 13 Al Khamsa Arabians, only 4 do not contain Al Khamsa Preservation Task Force Code Orange and/or Code Red elements in their pedigrees. My breeding programs are Davenports of the Core Kuhaylan Haifi group and Kuhaylan Haifi plus Ralf. My "pet project," is a group of Sharp (No Blunt bloodlines) Al Khamsa Arabians. This program concentrates on the daughters of the mare LD Ice Capade and their offspring, along with the Sa'ud/Davenport endurance stallion, DB Air Alamahn.
