A Foundation Horse
Owned by Ali Pasha Sharif in Egypt. Also called simply Nader or Nadir.
NOTES: The above information (except for the date, which is an Al Khamsa estimate) is from the RAS History, p98, and the pedigree on p12a for the sire of Nadra El Kebira (KDV). Raswan Index entry #7016 says that Nader El Kebir was a Dahman Shahwan stallion of Ali Pasha Sharif.
It has been suggested [Heirloom, p48] that Nader El Kebir (the old Nader) was actually the grey Saqlawi stallion described by Lady Anne Blunt as Ibn Nadir (APS). This horse is not otherwise in current Al Khamsa pedigrees. Lady Anne [J&C 12.19.1888] describes Ibn Nadir as an 1871 white Saqlawi Jidran by Wazir (APS). His dam is described by Archer, et.al., [1978, p-], Pearson [1995, corrections] (said to be based on records of Lady Anne Blunt) as Samha (APS), a grey Saqlawiyah Jidraniyah of Ibn Zubayni of the Fid'an, brought to either Abbas Pasha or Ali Pasha Sharif. These references describe Ibn Nadir as by a stallion named Nadir, with no further detail beyond the name, contradicting the earlier journal entries. This hypothesis is possible, but no evidence besides the similar names and time frames is apparent at this time.
