A Foundation Horse
A brown 'Ubayyah Sharrakiyah bred by "Erheyen" Ibn 'Aliyan of the Qumusah section of the Saba'ah tribe, purchased from Butayyin Ibn Mirshid of the Qumusah through Mr. James H. Skene, H.M. Consul at Aleppo, for Wilfrid and Lady Anne Blunt and imported in 1879 to England by the Blunts.
By a Ma'naqi Hudruji of Ibn Jufayfi [Qufayfah] of the Qumusah Saba'ah out of an 'Ubayyah Sharrakiyah.
NOTES: The above information (except for the Skene note, from Lady Anne Blunt [J&C, pp36-40]) is from Queen of Sheba's entry in Weatherby's General Stud Book Vol. XIV, p.604, which is consistent with material from Archer, et al. [1978, pp104-5] and Upton [1980, p68], both said to be based on access to records of the Blunts. These references also show Queen of Sheba's dam as bay.
A well-known marbat of 'Ubayyan Sharrak tracing to the horses of Ibn 'Aliyan and owned by the Ibn Mirshid, ruling family of the Saba'ah, was still in existence until the 1960s in Syria. [EAD, 2005]
