A Foundation Horse
A Saqlawi Jidran of the marbat of Ibn al-Dirri bred by al-Naddi Ibn al-Dirri of the Saba'ah tribe, purchased by Mr. James H. Skene, H.M. Consul at Aleppo, for Wilfrid and Lady Anne Blunt and imported in 1879 to England by the Blunts.
By a Kuhaylan 'Ajuz of the Qumusah section of the Saba'ah tribe out of a Saqlawiyah Jidraniyah of Ibn al-Dirri, who was by a Saqlawi Jidran of 'Ubayd al-Bal'asi of the Ruwalah tribe.
NOTES: The above information (with the exception of the substrain) is from Pharaoh's entry in Weatherby's General Stud Book Vol. XIV, p604, which says that Ibn al-Dirri was a member of the Rasallin section of the Saba'ah tribe. This entry gives the substrain as Ubayran. [See Meshura pedigree, pp126-127, which also indicates that Ibn al-Dirri was of the Qumusah section of the Saba'ah rather than the Rasallin section.] Archer, et al. [1978, pp103-4] and Upton [1980, p20], both said to be based on access to records of the Blunts, give the substrain as Jidran and add that Pharaoh's sire and dam were both bay. Pharaoh was imported to Poland in 1882 by Count Joseph Potocki, and imported to Russia in 1885 by the Russian Tsar.
