A Foundation Horse
An 'Ubayyan Sharrak in the (implied) ownership of Prince Ahmad Pasha Kamal, Egypt.
NOTES: The above information (except for the date, which is an Al Khamsa estimate) is from the pedigree on p12a of the RAS History, which says Obeyan was "from Arabia." Lady Anne Blunt [J&C 12.2.1907], on visiting Prince Ahmad's stud, describes a mare bred by Prince Ahmad and foaled c1902 as a daughter of an "Abeyan Haneydis from Sebaa (Mutlak says Mazbut strain)." [See under mabut/mazbut, p16. Mutlak was a Mutayr Bedouin who served the Blunts as stud manager in Egypt.] The 'Ubayyan Hunaydis could refer to the same stallion as the sire of Bint Freiha. According to the Abbas Pasha Manuscript, the Hunaydis was a substrain of 'Ubayyan Sharrak, as al-Hunaydis of al-Dhafir tribe obtained his 'Abayyan horses directly from his uncle, al-Sharrak of the Bani Khalid tribe. [1993, p444]
Raswan Index entry #7548 quotes the RAS pedigree but indicates that Obeyan was instead either bred by or imported in-utero by Prince Ahmad. This entry further shows Obeyan as by Zamil, a Shuwayman Sabbah of the Saba'ah by a Hadban Inzihi of the 'Amarat tribe and out of Nura, an 'Ubayyah Sharrakiyah of the strain of the Mhayd Fid'an by a Saqlawi Jidran of the Ruwalah tribe.
