A Pre-Registration Horse
A Kuhaylat 'Ajuz of the marbat of Ibn Jallab (or Kuhaylah Jallabiyah). Also called Bint Bint Jellabiet Feysul.
NOTES: The RAS History pedigree on p12a describes Bint Bint Jellabiet Feysul as called Arga, meaning "the lame." The date is an Al Khamsa estimate. Lady Anne Blunt's handwritten pedigree for Feysul [Upton, 1980, 8] shows the dam of Feysul (El Argaa) as bred by Ali Pasha Sharif, as a broken-legged chestnut and as a granddaughter of the "original mare" — Jellabiet Feysul.
Raswan Index entries #1046, #1425 and #2350 adds alternate names of Bint Bint Jellabiet Feysul, Bint Aziza Al-Makbula, Makbula Al-Aziza and Aziza, and describes her sire as follows: Waziri Al-Auwal, a Kuhaylan 'Ajuz of the marbat of Ibn Jallab (or Kuhaylan Jallabi stallion bred by Muhammad Ibn Khalifa of Bahrain, his sire Najib, a grey Dahman stallion bred by Umar Ibn Dauwish of the Mutayr and his dam Miskah, a chestnut Kuhaylah Jallabiyah bred by Tuwayni Ibn Al-Sayyid, all three horses imported to Egypt for Abbas Pasha. The Arab Horse Society Stud Book (Vol. 2, 22) pedigree for Feysul (APS) has El Argaa out of "Bint Bint Jellabiet Feysul," contradicting the other references by adding a generation.
Joan Schleicher [Heirloom, 57-62] postulates that Merzuk was a full brother to El Argaa, and hypothesizes that she was the chestnut Jallabiyah shown on the list of Ali Pasha Sharif horses for sale sent to the Blunts in January, 1889. Translated by Edouard al Dahdah in 2005, her description is "daughter of the chestnut Jallabiyah-two front stockings-her sire Wazir-her age 5." Merzuk is also on this list, described (in Al-Dahdah translation) as "son of the chestnut Jallabiyah-son of Wazir-his age 2." While appealing, this theory does not address why Lady Anne Blunt, who was familiar with these horses, did not make the association between this mare and the dam of Feysul, or this mare and Merzuk. [See Bint Jellabiet Feysul (APS) and the entries for Makbula El Kebira (APS) and Merzuk(APS)]
