A Foundation Horse
A Saqlawi Jidran of the marbat of Ibn Zubayni of the Fid'an, imported prior to 1855 to Egypt for Abbas Pasha. [Alternate spelling: El Zobeny]
NOTES: The above information (except for the dates) is from the pedigree on p12a of the RAS History and the 1932 certified pedigree for *Bint Serra I from the stud of Prince Kamal al-Din. Lady Anne Blunt in a herd book entry for Bint Nura (BLT) [Bowling, see p123] describes Zobeyni as a grey (white) original horse, a Saqlawi Jidran from Ibn Zubayni of the Mhayd 'Anazah. Recent information [Al-Dahdah, 2005] describes Ibn Zubayni as a member of a branch of the Shumaylat, related to the Mhayd section of the Fid'an tribe.
Raswan Index entry #11350 shows Zobeyni (AP) as an 1844 grey stallion bred by Barrak Ibn Zubayni of the Fid'an. Raswan further shows Zobeyni's sire as Barq, a Saqlawi Jidran of the marbat of Ibn Sudan, belonging to Salih Ibn Zubayni of the Fid'an and his dam as Snunah, a Saqlawiyah Jidraniyah of the marbat of Ibn Sudan belonging to al-Sunan of the Fid'an. This entry implied that the Zubayni marbat of the Saqlawi Jidran descended directly from horses of the marbat of Ibn Sudan.
However, according to the Abbas Pasha Manuscript [1993, beginning on p303] the Ibn Zubayni marbat of the Saqlawi Jidran strain and substrain descends from a different line of the Jidraniyah than does the Ibn Sudan marbat of the Saqlawi Jidran. According to this reference, then, the Ibn Zubayni did not descend from the Ibn Sudan.
