A Foundation Horse
A Saqlawiyah Jidraniyah of the marbat of Ibn Sudan from Ibn Sudan himself and imported prior to 1855 to Egypt for Abbas Pasha.
NOTES: The above information (except for the dates, which are Al Khamsa estimates) is from Upton [1980, p96], said to be based on access to notes of the Blunts. These references show Ibn Sudan as from the Ruwalah 'Anazah. However, the Saqlawi marbat of Ibn Sudan has a tribal affiliation of Saba'ah according to the Abbas Pasha Manuscript [Sherif/Forbis, 1993, p314]. Ibn Sudan was often incorrectly identified as from the Ruwalah.
Translations of the Abbas Pasha manuscript referring to the history of the Sudan family of Saqlawi Jidran are shown by Sherif and Forbis [1993, pp314-323) and also reportedly by Lady Anne Blunt as interpreted in chart form by Upton [1989, p280]. Horses described in these references do not appear to correlate by name, owner or tribal affiliation with a mare of the description of Ghazieh.
Entries referring to this mare in the Raswan Index do not appear to correspond with the mare described by Lady Anne Blunt as the Foundation Mare of the Sudaniyah marbat in Egypt. [Also see Yemameh (APS)]
