SAKLAWI II (KDV) |
|
| 1895 GS EGYPT*59 | Breeder: KHEDIVE ABBAS II | |
| Tail Male: SAKLAWI I (APS) | Tail Female: EL DAHMA (APS) | |
A Pre-Registration Horse
Obtained by Prince Mohamed Aly in 1899. Also called Farhan or Ibn El Saklawi.
NOTES: The above information (except for the second alternate name) is from Saklawi II's entry in an early handwritten herd book of Prince Mohamed Aly's Manial Stud. This entry is especially interesting in that it notes the Dahman strain of the dam, but gives the strain of the horse himself as Saqlawi, indicating some confusion on the part of Prince Mohamed Aly about the inheritance of strain names. [See LAB: J&C, 4.7.1899]
This confusion probably led to further confusion later, with the Saqlawi strain carried backwards to the dam, El Dahma. [For a similar example, see the entries of *Mannaky and *Pride] According to the Egyptian pedigrees furnished with the Babson and Brown importations of 1932, Saklawi II (called Farhan) is listed as a Saqlawi-Jidran from the stud of the Khedive Abbas II, by a Saqlawi Jidran from the stud of Ali Pasha Sharif out of a Saqlawiyah Jidraniyah mare named Dahma from the stud of Ali Pasha Sharif. Carl Raswan evidently followed this data in his Index entry #2596. However, the RAS History, p65, the EAO stud books, and Raswan Index entry #8981 and corrections entry #638 refer to Saklawi II as out of Ali Pasha Sharif's El Dahma, a Dahmah Shahwaniyah.
