A Foundation Horse
A white Dahmah Shahwaniyah of the marbat of al-Najib bred by Khalil al-Hajri of the Bani Hajr and imported prior to 1855 to Egypt for Abbas Pasha.
NOTES: The above information (except for the dates, which are Al Khamsa estimates) is from the 1932 certified pedigree for *Bint Serra I from the stud of Prince Kamal al-Din Hussayn. Lady Anne Blunt [J&C 1.20.1908] quotes Mutlak, her Mutayr stud manager, as saying that Khalil al-Hajri was Shaykh of the Bani Hajr and in her handwritten herd book entry for Feysul (APS) reproduced photographically by Upton [1980, p8] shows the same information as the *Bint Serra I pedigree. Lady Anne called the mare the white Dahmah Najibah of Khalil al-Hajri.
The identification of the names Shalfa and Dahmeh Nejiba II with this mare is in Raswan Index entry #9451, which, with entries #7095 and #7715, shows the same information as the *Bint Serra I pedigree, and additionally show Shalfa as by Qabar, a grey Dahman Shahwan al-Najib of the Bani Husayn out of a Dahmah Shahwaniyah al-Najib. Entry #7095 (#8) further shows Khalil al-Hajri as of the Shahwan clan of the Bani Hajr. [See also *Shahwan and Nura El Kebira (APS).]
