A Pre-Registration Horse
A Dahman Shahwan of the marbat of al-Najib out of a bay Bint Nura (APS).
NOTES: Ibn Nura's entry in the Blunts' Sheykh Obeyd herd book [Pearson, 146] says, "A white stallion, Dahman Nejib, bred by Ali Pasha Sharif about 1876. Sire Sotamm, dam Bint Nura. Purchased January 15th, 1897 and died in the spring of 1903." The pedigree can be seen in Lady Anne Blunt's own hand in a photographic reproduction of Feysul's pedigree [Upton, 1980, 8].
At least three alternate pedigrees for Ibn Nura (APS) exist. (1) The reference pedigree for Feysul (APS) in the Arab Horse Society Stud Book (Vol. 2 p22) shows the sire of Feysul as Ibn Nura by Sottam and erroneously out of Bint Nura (BLT), who was born a decade after Ibn Nura. Carl Raswan apparently used the Arab Horse Society pedigree for Feysul, as did the RAS History in the pedigree of Ghadia (BLT), p48. Bint Nura (BLT) is shown as dam of Ibn Nura in Raswan Index entry #4022, and in Index corrections entry #895, which gives a date of 1889 for Ibn Nura, halfway between Bint Nura (BLT), foaled in 1885, and Feysul (APS), foaled in 1894.
(2) The Inshass Original Herd Book pedigree for Ibn Fayda (KAD), horse #2, shows Ghazieh (APS)'s sire as Ibn Nura by Sottam out of "Nora." (3) In a variation of (2), the 1932 *Bint Serra I certified pedigree from Prince Kamal al-Din shows Ibn Nura by Sottam out of "Nura," Nura's dam a bay Dahmah Shahwaniyah of al-Najib bred by Ali Pasha Sharif. All three alternative pedigrees for Ibn Nura disagree with the pedigree consistently provided by Lady Anne Blunt, who owned the stallion.
