A Pre-Registration Horse
A Kuhaylan 'Ajuz stallion of the marbat of Ibn Jallab (or Kuhaylan Jallabi). Purchased from his breeder by Wilfrid and Lady Anne Blunt in 1889 and imported to England in 1891 by the Blunts. Sold to Basutoland, Cape Province of South Africa later in 1891.
By Wazir (APS) out of a chestnut Kuhaylah-Jallabiyah.
NOTES: The above information is from the entry for Merzuk in Weatherby's General Stud Book, [XVII, 814].
Raswan Index entry #6294 and correction entry #1137 identify the dam of Merzuk, foaled 1887, as Makbula El Kebira (APS). However, at the same time they purchased Merzuk (APS) and Mesaoud (APS), the Blunts also purchased a chestnut filly named Khatila (APS), an 1887 daughter of Makbula El Kebira (APS) by Aziz (APS) [GSB XVII, 810]. According to a handwritten document from Ali Pasha Sharif, Khatila was foaled two months before Merzuk. Therefore, Makbula El Kebira could not have been the dam of Merzuk. Merzuk (APS) is erroneously identified in the Arab Horse Society stud book, Vol. II p25 as a Saqlawi Jidran of Ibn al-Dirri.
Joan Schleicher (2004, 57-62) postulates that Merzuk was out of the same daughter of Jellabiet Feysul (AP) which was also the dam of El Argaa (APS)].
