NOTES: The RAS History p63 and the 1932 certified pedigree for *Zarife from the Manial Stud of Prince Mohamed Aly show Samhan by Rabdan El Azrak out of Om Dalal. Lady Anne Blunt [J&C, 12/1/1907] states that at that time, Prince Mohamed Aly had just purchased six head from Prince Ahmad's son, Prince Yusef. This appears to be the first effort to begin an Arabian breeding program by Prince Mohamed Aly. The color is from Pearson [1988, xxx], who describes Samhan as a chestnut from Prince Ahmad. The birthdate is an Al Khamsa estimate.
Raswan Index entry #9062 shows the same information as the RAS History, adding that Samhan was bred by Ali Pasha Sharif. Since Ali Pasha Sharif died in 1897 and Samhan's dam was not foaled until c1899, this is apparently in error. [See also Roga El Beda (APS) for more about the family, or marbat.]
