A Pre-Registration Horse
NOTES: Negma is described in the 1932 certified pedigrees for *Fadl and *Maaroufa from the Manial Stud of Prince Mohamed Aly as by Dahman El Azrak and out of Bint Yamama, of the stud of Prince Mohamed Aly. Photographs published by Judith Forbis [AAB, 119-120] show her at Manial as a dark grey in 1915 with her first foal of record. Colin Pearson [1988, xxix] shows her as a grey mare bred by Prince Mohamed Aly and later transferred to T.G.B. Trouncer.
Both the AHC stud books and the 1932 certified pedigrees describe this line as being Kuhaylan 'Ajuz of the marbat of Ibn Jallab (or Kuhaylan Jallabi), tracing to Jellabiet Feysul (AP). Modern mtDNA testing has confirmed the information from Lady Anne Blunt's Journals and Correspondence indicating that the line instead goes to Ghazieh (AP) through Yemamah (APS). Since Bint Yamama was transferred, heavy in foal, from the Khedive to Prince Mohamed Aly by the end of 1908 [J&C, 12/22/1908], either Negma was bred by the Khedive prior to early 1909 or by Prince Mohamed Aly c1909-10. The birthdate of c1909 is an Al Khamsa estimate.
